Bailey Streetscene provides a bespoke pergola and seating for one of the five new green spaces in the Hamiltonhill Project in Glasgow.
The Hamiltonhill project is an ambitious regeneration initiative located in Glasgow, designed to revitalise the area and provide quality housing and green spaces for the community. Over a 10-year period, the project will see the construction of approximately 670 new homes, with a balanced mix of low-rise flats and terraced housing. The goal of the development is to create vibrant, sustainable communities that cater to the diverse needs of residents.
As part of the Hamiltonhill development, five new parks and open spaces are being created to serve as vital green infrastructure for the community. These spaces are integral to the broader vision of enhancing the local environment, supporting biodiversity, and providing residents with accessible, communal areas.
One of these green spaces, a small community-focused garden, is located on the northern edge of the site adjacent to Bardowie Street Hall. This particular garden is a collaborative effort between the Queens Cross Housing Association and Clay Community Church.
Bailey Streetscene was commissioned to design and deliver bespoke outdoor furniture and structures for this garden. Working closely with the client, Robertson Construction Group Limited, and landscape architects LUC Glasgow, Bailey Streetscene provided a tailored solution that included a powder-coated steel and hardwood pergola and Greengate seating.
Design and Products
The design of the community garden focused on creating a functional yet aesthetically pleasing space that would foster community engagement and outdoor activities. Bailey Streetscene's bespoke pergola serves as both a visual focal point and a practical structure providing shelter for community events. The combination of steel and hardwood materials ensures durability while blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
The Greengate Seating, strategically placed throughout the garden, offers comfortable resting spots for visitors, encouraging them to spend time in the space and enjoy the outdoors. The seating design complements the pergola, reinforcing a cohesive aesthetic throughout the garden.
Community Impact
The Hamiltonhill development aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by creating environments that promote health, well-being, and a strong sense of community. The new green spaces, including the community garden, play a crucial role in achieving these goals. The garden will be used for various community events linked to the nearby Clay Community Church, fostering social connections and a sense of belonging among residents.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
The Hamiltonhill project is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and aligns with broader sustainability goals. The creation of green spaces, such as the community garden, supports biodiversity by introducing flora and fauna into urban settings. This, in turn, contributes to the ecological health of the area and offers residents opportunities to engage with nature.
From an economic perspective, the regeneration of Hamiltonhill, including the development of green infrastructure, is expected to unlock economic potential by attracting investment, improving property values, and creating jobs during and after the construction phase.
Outcome
Through the collaborative efforts of Bailey Streetscene, Robertson Construction Group Limited, LUC Glasgow, and other stakeholders, the community garden at Bardowie Street Hall has become a symbol of the wider regeneration efforts in Glasgow. The bespoke pergola and Greengate seating not only enhance the visual appeal of the space but also provide a practical foundation for community interaction and well-being. As Hamiltonhill continues to develop, it stands as a model for sustainable urban regeneration that prioritises both people and the environment.
