City Design adds a stylish, sustainable new dimension to the Bailey Streetscene portfolio
Bailey Streetscene has expanded its portfolio to ensure specifiers, contractors and other decision-makers can respond to emerging outdoor design trends with the addition of a stylish range of products from leading Italian designer and manufacturer, City Design.
The move to become the UK’s exclusive distributor of the internationally renowned City Design range, which encompasses everything from seating, cycle parking and shelters to barriers and bollards, also strengthens BSFG’s partnership with The Placemakers.
The Placemakers is a forward-thinking group, which brings together several companies and brands with a shared ethos of creating spaces dedicated to the people, driven by sociability, interpersonal connection and wellbeing. Within its group is Metalco, a long-term supply partner of Bailey Streetscene sister-company Artform Urban.
The City Design range brings a new dimension to Bailey Streetscene by providing solutions for a different market segment, giving alternative ways to meet design ambitions.
The Placemakers philosophy aligns perfectly with BSFG, who equally seek to help clients, architects and developers create spaces which encourage people to be outdoors where social engagement happens. Both organisations believe that through the provision of well-designed and well-made street furniture and associated elements, better and higher quality outside spaces can be created which are stimulating for users and facilitate better connectivity for improved quality of life.
Design versatility, quality manufacturing and sustainable for the long-term
One of the key reasons why City Design has developed an outstanding reputation globally is its ability to develop products that offer excellent versatility while at the same time being inclusive and sustainable.
From an aesthetic perspective, the range brings something very different through a “street stylist” vision. The result is a collection of street furniture products offering a variety of colours, textures and finishes to maximise opportunity and choice, with the freedom to create a uniform and unique space.
Quality is at the heart of all City Design products too. Their streamlined design utilises high-quality materials and manufacturing processes, which are consistent across The Placemakers group, to ensure practicality and durability goals can be met in street furniture products without compromising style or sustainability targets. Amongst the carefully selected materials available are highly durable Corten Steel, stainless steel and powder-coated steel in RAL colours, as well as WPC (wood plastic composite), ethically sourced hardwoods including Iroko and Movingui, and HPL (high-pressure laminates).
To ensure clients can create the most sustainable outdoor spaces using its products, City Design has worked hard to reduce energy use and CO2 emissions throughout its manufacturing processes. The company uses 100% certified sustainable energy, thanks to more than 7,500 solar panels installed on the factory roofs, which cuts CO2 emissions by more than 850 tonnes annually and saves the need for approximately 340 tonnes of the oil equivalent.
Visual appeal meets optimised functionality
The breadth of the City Design range provides solutions for many different applications and design tastes.
One of the most appealing new additions that City Design brings to the Bailey Streetscene range is the Cubik, a collection of modular cube-shaped elements that can be joined together to form attractive outdoor seating. The modules are composed of folded steel sheet bases, to which seats are mechanically attached, with the potential to powder coat in statement colours.
A very different product is the semi-circular shading structure with integrated table and seats called Cison Contea. This is formed of two curved tubular steel supports, welded to shaped steel sheet brackets and ribs, onto which hardwood or thermo-treated pine slats are fixed, and it is also possible to integrate IP54 sockets and LED lighting.
Further creativity is demonstrated with the stylish Division litter bin, which is made of steel sheet with an integrated lid, and the Ombra pergola, a self-supporting shading system consisting of square steel tubular columns and steel sheet base plate. These elements can be powder coated and configured to allow for climbing plants to grow and rectangular planters.
Building a stronger partnership
The introduction of the City Design range forges a closer working relationship between BSFG and The Placemakers. To support the Bailey Streetscene team, members of the sales team and product manager Marco Arreghini were invited to visit The Placemakers manufacturing facility in Italy for training to develop their understanding of how City Design products are made, as well as other products from The Placemakers family.
The team learned about manufacturing, sustainability, materials and different finishes, as well as product treatments, which will prove valuable when advising customers here in the UK.
Marco Arreghini, Product Manager at BSFG said:
“Members from different teams here at BSFG were hosted by The Placemakers at their HQ in December 2023, to attend a series of training sessions.
“It was a hugely beneficial visit to gather a deeper understanding of our partners, how they design and manufacture, and how together we can create better value for our customers in the UK market in 2024.
“Two full days were spent discussing Metalco, City Design and MyEquilibria, production lines, energy savings, the circular economy, special materials such as patented concrete mixtures and finishings, in particular the Corten ageing process and the powder coating lines. It was a positive conclusion to 2023 and gives us a solid foundation and superb knowledge to grow the market for City Design during 2024 and beyond.”
