Bailey Streetscene supply a number of large bespoke planter units and seating to an all-new 32-storey neighbourhood in heart of Manchester’s popular New Islington district.
Oxygen Manchester boasts outstanding facilities including a 25m swimming pool, steam room, sauna, 24-7 gymnasium, spin studio, residents' lounges, and cinema room and more that create a living environment based around wellbeing, health and community. Located next to Piccadilly Station, Ancoats and the bustling Northern Quarter, Oxygen offers 12 luxury townhouses at ground level and 361 apartments.
Large bespoke planters have been supplied to the exterior of the complex that elevate the surroundings and bring welcomed greenery to the city centre location. The units, which are adapted from our standard Stoke planter range, measure up to 5 meters in length and line alongside the road and were specifically designed and positioned for wind mitigation purposes. Our team worked closely with the designer and contractor to deliver a structurally calculated design that would reduce the impact of the wind on the building.
The planters feature a fully galvanised structure and frame clad with hit-and-miss Sapele hardwood timbers, the inside is lined with Geotex Liner and drainage holes making it suitable to house large amounts of soil and foliage.
As well as wind mitigation the planters offer numerous benefits in the urban environment - they can improve acoustic comfort by absorbing sound reflections, reduce the risk of flooding by absorbing rainwater runoff, cool the surroundings by absorbing heat and providing shade, reduce pollution by filtering harmful fumes as well as providing natural shelter and habitats for insects and animals.
As a final addition to the project, a number of wall-mounted benches create outdoor social seating areas for the residents.
Oxygen is in an area of Manchester currently undergoing a significant period of transformation. Close to the Mayfield area of the city, and on the doorstep of Ancoats – a neighbourhood voted as one of the most cosmopolitan in the world.
