Our partnering organisation in Germany, Westeifel Werke, is a non-commercial corporation operating a state-approved workshop that provides jobs for people with various levels and types of disabilities.
As a result more than 530 mentally, physically and psychologically disabled people are in full time gainful employment. These people also receive ongoing occupational training as well as support with their personal development.
Experience gathered over the last 30 years clearly demonstrates that disabled people, despite certain limited capabilities, are nevertheless highly motivated workers with a strong urge to work. All profits generated by this factory are reinvested directly back into the company and for the direct benefit of the disabled individuals that make up the work force.
Beyond the clear economic good practice of providing meaningful employment opportunities for motivated people with disabilities, there is also a huge educational, therapeutic, medicinal and psychological benefit to this model, which impacts both the individuals and the wider society in a hugely positive way.
Westeifel’s production facility has been using FSC© certified timber for all outdoor furniture for more than 15 years.
Westeifel are also an active and influential member of the FSC© work group in Germany.
